Male Pelvic Health
Pelvic floor dysfunction is common in men (people with a penis), affecting about one in eight. It is under-reported and under-treated because people don’t feel comfortable talking about these problems and they don’t know where to go to get help.
Even finding an experienced pelvic health physical therapist can be a challenge as many choose to only work with women (people with vulvas). This leads to many people not getting the help they need.
Here are some some of the problems people come in to see us for:
CPPS (Chronic Pelvic Pain Syndrome)/Non-Bacterial Prostatitis
Pelvic or Perineal Pain
Dysuria: painful urination
Scrotal or testicular pain
Penis pain
Pain with ejaculation or post-ejaculation
Coccydynia: tailbone pain
Low back pain or sciatica
Hip pain
Abdominal or groin pain
ED or pain with erection
Hard/flaccid syndrome
Constipation
Bladder Dysfunction: urgency, incomplete emptying, difficulty initiating urine stream, nocturia
Pelvic floor physical therapy can provide manual therapy, behavioral strategies, education, stretching and relaxation exercises, self-help strategies, pain science education, nervous system down-training, and appropriate referrals to complementary professions/services.
